About Tammy Ortegon
Local artist, Tammy Ortegon has exhibited her painting in art galleries, cultural centers & at community events thru out the twin cities. Her work is inspired by the people of the world & their stories. Her vision is to offer a unique perspective of how we see each other & start a dialogue among people that leads to communication, information & understanding.
Tammy lives in south Minneapolis with her family where she runs the Colorwheel Gallery, a one chair hair salon & art gallery featuring Tammy’s artwork along with that of other local artists.
Tammy has been involved in many art events promoting peace, diversity & building bridges of understanding thru out our communities. Donating art & volunteering many hours for the promotion of progressive change. Tammy is a founding board member of ‘Women Create’ (women’s artist collective) & the newly created ‘SMARTS’ (south mpls arts business association).
In 2004 she was commissioned to create 2 murals working with local youth & has volunteered many hours on other mural projects. Tammy was awarded ‘The Spirit of Powderhorn’ at the Powderhorn Art Fair in 2001, 2004 & 2007.
