The Local Inspiration Series is inspired by the passion of residents to improve their community while cultivating its uniqueness. The excitement and diversity of these communities is brought to life through the use of vibrant color and folk art renditions of neighborhood characters and everyday people. I hope that these paintings remind you of special places and trigger fond memories.
Some original artwork is still available. Most paintings are available as Prints, Magnets and Greeting Cards. Please contact the gallery for more information.
Local Inspiration Series: East Lake Street
This was my first painting in this series, inspired by the revitalization of Lake Street through new shops, restaurants and art centers. I am inspired by the constant movement and vibrant murals in this area. My goal with this painting is to show the vitality of an area that has traditionally had negative connotations for many people. This painting was so well received by the business owners and residents, it motivated me to look for other places that had left a lasting impression on me.
Local Inspiration Series: Kingfield
I live and work in the Kingfield neighborhood and am proud to raise my children in this strong community named for Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. I love to see all the locally owned businesses run by familiar faces. It is so important that we support them so we don’t lose these wonderful assets to our city.
Local Inspiration Series: Powderhorn
This park has become a cultural center for the city, celebrating May Day and the 4th of July, hosting an annual art fair, and offering year-round youth programs. In 2001 and 2004, I was honored to receive the “Spirit of Powderhorn” award. Here, I attempted to capture the freedom and respite the park offers from our busy lives.
Local Inspiration Series: St. Paul Farmers Market
While working on the Local Inspiration Series, many people asked me when I was going to paint something from St. Paul? Finally inspiration struck - Lowertown!
I love the St. Paul farmers market! It is surrounded by the beautiful brickwork, artist studios, artist resource center & the Black Dog Cafe.
